I’m tempted to find an old review of Behind the Candelabra and try and pass off as my own but that would be unwise. But fair to say this movie is a fun and enjoyable movie. When it came out in 2013 it came with a flourish and lot of positive talk. The acting is great and the way the story is told offers a completely new spin on a ‘romantic movie’.
It tells the story of pianist Liberace (Michael Douglas)and the relationship he had with Scott Thorson (Matt Damon). Thorson’s later life has been as colorful, if not more colorful than Liberace’s.
In 1989, Thorson emerged as a pivotal witness in the prosecution of gangster Eddie Nash, in the 1981 quadruple murders of the Wonderland Gang. Since 2008, he has had multiple criminal convictions and has been an inmate in the Nevada Department of Corrections system since January 2014.
Getting back to the movie which is now on Netflix. It tells the story of people before cellphones and social media. When people had more liberty to do what they want.
