Holland To Trial Women In Men’s Soccer Teams

So I’m not going to attempt any jokes here.  This is how it is, a scheme approved by the Dutch Football Association (KNVB) is going to allow female amateur soccer players to join men’s soccer teams.

The KNVB has already granted permission for one woman – 19-year-old Elle Fokkema – to join fourth-tier VV Foarut for the 2020-21 season.

“The KNVB stands for diversity and equality,” the organisation’s head of development Art Langeler said.

“We believe that there should be room for everyone in every way in football.”

Mixed football was actually introduced in Holland in 1986 with current rules allowing female players to play in mixed teams up to under-19 level.

The decision will help to develop female football in Holland/  The national women’s team lost to the USA in the 2019 Women’s World Cup final.
