After posting a series of reviews accusing a hotel in Thailand of using “modern-day slavery” a US man is facing a stretch in prison.
Wesley Barnes, who works in Thailand, has already been used for defamation under the countries strict laws. Barnes stayed at the resort in June and had disagreed with staff who tried to charge a corkage fee for alcohol he and a friend had brought on to the premises.
The Sea View Resort claimed the harsh criticism by the former guest was untrue and damaging to the hotel’s reputation.
In Thailand, carrying a maximum sentence of two years in prison, along with a 200,000 baht (£4,915) fine.
